August Newsletter Article - How long does Sureshield last?

08/04/08

A common question asked by manufacturers and facility managers is how long Sureshield lasts once it is applied. In general, with proper application and usage, Sureshield is designed to last the life of the product to which it is applied. With no extensive maintenance required, Sureshield, in certain cases, can even extend the life of certain products by presenting an additional barrier between the substrate and the environment.

The key to making Sureshield last is proper application. Whether you are using a liquid or powder coating, Sureshield Coatings Company will provide you with detailed application guides and data sheets. We also offer complimentary how-to videos, as well as in-plant, video, and web training. Most manufacturers that already coat products will find that there is no, or minimal change, to their existing coating processes and thus have experience in properly applying coatings. For those manufacturers who outsource their coating applications, most reputable applicators can easily and properly apply Sureshield to a wide variety of substrates.

After you apply Sureshield properly, it can still be damaged or removed in certain situations or environments. Two areas to watch for are physical abrasion and extreme chemical causticity. While Sureshield is durable, it is a coating and can be abraded if enough force is applied to it. Using a knife, or other cutting tool, can abrade the coating when enough pressure is applied. Preventing abrasion from a cutting tool is important to maintaining the life of the coating. Additionally, extreme chemical causticity can remove coatings, including Sureshield. For waterborne coatings, avoid using ammonia. For all products, be careful of extremely harsh chemicals. Most standard household and industrial cleaners will have no negative effect on Sureshield. If your products come in contact with specific chemicals or cleaning agents, contact your Sureshield representative to find out how which Sureshield coating is right for you.
