frequently asked questions for manufacturers

Whether you are an engineer, a product developer, a marketer, a purchaser, or a company president, there are important questions you want answers to. On this page, we highlight the most frequently asked questions and provide you with straightforward answers. What is Sureshield?

Sureshield is a series of coatings for any type of metal that contain antimicrobial compounds to inhibit the growth of odor and stain-causing bacteria, molds, mildews, and fungi on the coating. Sureshield resists fingerprints and is easy to clean. Sureshield can be applied to metal either before or after the part is fabricated.

Why should I incorporate Sureshield into my product line?

Sureshield promotes freshness by attacking the very source of a universal problem: odor and stain-causing bacteria, molds, mildews, and fungi on the coating. This long-lasting treatment is used in many ways to enhance product performance and address consumer concerns on matters of environmental freshness. Sureshield reduces the appearance of fingerprints on the coating and is easier to clean while providing a more alluring look.

What type of antimicrobial protection does it provide?

Simply put, antimicrobial protection means that Sureshield inhibits the growth of odor and stain-causing bacteria, molds, mildews, and fungi on the coating that can cause odors, stains, deterioration, corrosion, and contamination.

How does it work?

When microorganisms appear on the surface of the coating, antimicrobial compounds make contact with them and disrupt the microorganisms' attempts to live and remain comfortable. Instead of continuing to grow, the microorganisms will not grow, and after a short period of time, the microorganisms can no longer be measured by standard laboratory equipment.

How quickly does antimicrobial activity take place?

Sureshield's antimicrobial properties are activated upon application. Test results show that the coatings will suppress the growth of microbes within minutes and significantly reduce them within 24 hours.

Are the coatings environmentally safe?

Yes. The coatings contain no heavy metals and have low or no volatile organic compounds (VOC's). The antimicrobial compounds used in Sureshield are registered for use with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other similar regulatory agencies around the world.

Do these products produce resistant strains?

For over 50 years, the antimicrobial compounds used in Sureshield have never harbored resistant strains of bacteria or other microorganisms.

How long will the coating last?

The coatings, when applied correctly, should remain on the base metal for the useful life of the metal product while continuing to inhibit the growth of odor and stain-causing microorganisms.

How is it applied?

Sureshield can be applied in a coil coating line (pre-application liquid coating), by spray, brush, or roller (post-application liquid coating), or by powder coating. In the coil coating line, the metal is cleaned, pre-treated, and Sureshield is applied and cured onto the metal. The post-application liquid formulas can be cured via an air dry or bake assist process. The powder coatings can be applied via any standard automatic or manual powder coating method.

Which application method should I use?

While the coil coating formula will provide the most efficient method of coating on metal, products that do not fit in a coil coating line can utilize either of the two post-application methods: liquid coating or powder coating. Both methods are available in a variety of chemistries. For assistance in selecting the most appropriate application method, please contact Sureshield Coatings Company.

What color are Sureshield coatings?

Sureshield coatings are available in clear, solid colors, and transparent colors. There are more than 150 formulas currently available.

Can I custom design a Sureshield coating?

Yes, Sureshield Coatings Company offers a custom design program in which manufacturers can tailor a coating to meet their specific requirements. To learn more about participating in the Sureshield Custom Design Program, please click here or contact Sureshield Coatings Company.

Are the coatings fingerprint resistant?

Yes, all Sureshield formulas provide increased fingerprint resistance to metal, providing an easier-to-clean and more attractive finish.

How much does it cost?

A precise cost will depend on many factors, including formula type, coating thickness, and application method. In general, Sureshield will add a minimal, affordable cost to your metal. For more details, please contact Sureshield Coatings Company.
